Know The Truth – Get The Jab

Anxiety and myths about the Covid-19 vaccination are threatening the health of millions of people across central and eastern Africa. As a result, in some areas just 10% of the population is getting the jab. Among the misinformation are claims that the vaccine causes infertility and can even kill. Now churches in the region are mobilising to counter the fake news and fabrication and encourage communities to have confidence in the jab.

Covid is still having a devastating impact around the world, but the vaccine is the most powerful tool to stop it in its tracks. USPG’s church partners are seeking support for their community schemes to encourage uptake of the vaccine.

And so USPG is launching an appeal in partnership with the Church in Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe to raise £46,000 for vaccine uptake programmes in each country. This will fund campaigns by medical experts and church leaders, paid social media posts, billboards and radio advertising to encourage communities to get the vaccine. In Zimbabwe, the Church will also be providing food hampers and PPE to support people living with HIV as part of their vaccine outreach programme.

‘This is a fantastic opportunity to provide essential support right on the front line,’ said USPG’s Head of Fundraising, Sian Wilkinson-Iles. ‘These funds will help community projects tackle the myths and half-truths about the vaccine and give people the confidence they need to get the jab. Donations will save lives; it is as simple as that. I hope our supporters will get behind this campaign.’
