The College of the Transfiguration (COTT) is an Anglican theological college based in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape, South Africa. It is the only provincial residential college of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa (ACSA). The college opened in 1993, following the amalgamation of two other colleges: St Bede’s in Mthatha and St Paul’s in Grahamstown. USPG has supported the COTT ever since it opened.
With students and faculty from all over the world, the COTT strives to be culturally diverse and over 14 languages can be heard spoken on its campus. The COTT’s Anglican ethos embraces all aspects of college life and supports the formation of ministers who are open to new ideas and comfortable living with differences of opinion and practice. The college life and rhythm follow that of Benedictine spirituality: prayer, study and work. The college has a proud history of interaction with the wider Grahamstown and Anglican communities. Through its pastoral placement programme, students eat the college become actively engaged in the wider community.
Governance of the COTT is overseen by a Council that sets its policies and takes care of its ecclesiastical and ï¬nancial responsibilities. The Council is assisted by the Academic Board, which considers all the college’s policies, rules and regulations.
The COTT is currently coordinating a leadership training programme, working jointly with HOPE Africa, the ACSA’s social development arm. The two organisations have been entrusted by the Province to coordinate the provision of training for leadership in the ACSA. The programme is based at the COTT’s Grahamstown campus and is overseen by a reference group consisting of both organisations and the ACSA’s Provincial Executive Officer. USPG is pleased to be supporting the COTT in this effort to build the capacity of the Church through the training and education of leaders.
