UPSG invited Archbishop Winston from Polynesia to challenge us about climate change (21.9.17)
We were delighted to host Dr Winston Halapua, Archbishop of Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia, this summer during his visit to England.
Dr Winston gave talks, engaged in panel debates (pictured above) and led worship at Greenbelt Festival and York Minster, as well as paying a visit to Lincoln and being interviewed by BBC Radio York.
Speaking at Greenbelt, he delivered this hard-hitting message about climate change, for which he drew from experience of seeing islands in Polynesia disappearing under rising sea levels.
You can see more videos of him at Greenbelt here.
Immediately after Greenbelt, Dr Winston made a brief visit to Lincoln where the possibility of a companion link between the Diocese of Lincoln and the Diocese of Polynesia isbeing explored.
He then travelled on to York to speak at a World Church Dinner, organised by some USPG supporters, then he preached in York Minster on the Sunday.
While at the World Church Dinner he shared two powerful videos.
The first is a dedication prayer.
The second video is a prayer that was written following Cyclone Winston
Dr Winston was interviewed by BBC Radio York.
It was wonderful to be able to invte Archbishop Winston, and his wife Sue, to speak about Climate Change as we launched our new Climate Resource this summer.
