JOurney with US Exploration Weekend

Join us in Birmingham, April 6-8,  to explore whether a short-term mission placement in the world church is right for you.

Explore what mission means today and hear from volunteers who have returned from their placements.

The USPG Journey With Us programme will offer you exceptional opportunities that will deepen your faith, develop your gifts, and expand your understanding and perspective on different cultures and issues of global development, justice and mission.

The phrase we most often hear from those who have taken the step of faith to be part of Journey with Us is 'life changing'. Their experience is that God uses their time spent with the church in another part of the world to mould their character, shape their thinking and direct their future steps.

USPG will support you every step of the way, with training and preparation prior to travel, care while you are on placement, and debriefing on return.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible?

Any one resident in Britain and Ireland, aged 18 or over, from any denomination or church background.

What is the length of a placement?

Up to 12 months (all participants must take part in the full training and preparation process)

How is my placement decided?

Placements are tailor-made to meet individual preferences, including location. All placements are with USPG partner churches in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean.

What is the cost of the placement?

Cost depends on location and length of placement. For a 12-month placement you may need to raise around £3,000 - £4,000 to cover airfare, insurance, living expenses and training, plus sundry other costs. A grant is available from USPG, and we may advise on where further funding could be available.

What is it like on placement?

As the guest of your host church, you will be offered pastoral care and support. The emphasis is on participation, sharing and fellowship. Many volunteers humbly acknowledge that they gain far more than they give.

What skills are required?

No professional skills are necessary. You may have a professional skill that you wish to use. Likewise, you may wish to try your hand at something new.
