‘Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of injustice, to undo the thongs of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke?’
Isaiah 58:6

India’s Dalit and tribal peoples have been subject to a yoke of oppression for generations. By choosing to make USPG your focus for Lent 2018 your church can help to set them free.

Whole communities have become debt slaves, working in appalling conditions for no reward. Often their children are forced to leave education in order to work off their family’s crippling debt. And the cycle of oppression continues. Through a programme called Let My People Go, USPG is working in partnership with The Church of North India to loose these bonds of injustice and let the oppressed go free. Will you join us during Lent 2018?

The Church of North India is predominately made up of Dalit people. Excluded from society at large, they have found a home in a church that promotes a gospel which is good news to the poor. Putting that gospel into action, Let My People Go tackles specific issues of deprivation in income inequalities, education and health faced by Dalit and tribal communities, while addressing the core issues of caste, gender and poverty.

Safira has benefited from Let My People Go. She was given a beehive and has joined forces with other bee keepers in the community to rent warehouse space to store their honey. By working together, they have been able to negotiate better prices for their product. Having secured a source of income, she can now look forward to a better future for her children.

Please choose Let My People Go for Lent 2018 and help others to escape the bonds of injustice. To donate to our Lent Appeal click here
